Meet Kirby the Hero Dog!
Kirby, one of the HERO DOGS with advanced training, visited us with Joanne, HERO DOGS Director of Development, on Wednesday, April 10 to accept a $1,500 donation check from our Big Red Doghouse Foundation.
Hero Dogs, Inc., a Maryland 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, improves the quality of life for our nation's heroes by raising, training, and placing service dogs and other highly skilled canines, free of charge with a lifetime support of the partnerships. They have a small staff and more than 100 active volunteers committed to the success of our mission. HERO DOGS is located at Waredaca Farm in Laytonsville, MD.
Kirby won over all of our hearts as soon as he entered the building. His happy tail and his ready-to-please attitude made him an immediate favorite among the team. Joanne demonstrated Kirby's amazing abilities to pick up items dropped on the floor (even credit cards), offer her comfort by sitting at her feet with his whole body pressed against her legs, placing his head in our open palms as a greeting, and on and on... Kirby is in advanced training and will be matched with an American Hero later this year.
You can view the HERO DOG volunteer puppy raisers and their puppies in training on the HERO DOG Facebook page and Instagram page. You can learn so much more about the HERO DOGS program on their website. Better yet, come to their fundraising event at Waredaca Brewing Company on April 25; to learn more click here.
We make these donations through our Big Red Doghouse Foundation (BRDF),. This is our fourth $1,500 gift from the BRDF since the program began in February 2018. Our entire Health Care Team is super-excited to be making a bigger difference in the world of pets!
